iOS 27.2 Beta: Everything New (Redesigned Health App, Siri AI Languages, Dual Capture FaceTime)

News

iOS 27.2 beta 1 is here, just two days after iOS 27. Here's everything new: the redesigned Apple Intelligence Health app, five new Siri AI languages, dual capture for Group FaceTime, Apple TV profiles on iPhone, build numbers, install steps, and why Apple

Just two days after iOS 27 shipped, Apple jumped straight to an iOS 27.2 developer beta — skipping iOS 27.1 entirely. Here's everything included: the redesigned Apple Intelligence Health app, five new Siri AI languages, dual-camera Group FaceTime, and why Apple is holding iOS 27.1 back for the iPhone Duo.

What just happened

On Wednesday, September 16, 2026 — barely 48 hours after iOS 27 rolled out to the public — Apple seeded the first developer beta of iOS 27.2 (alongside iPadOS 27.2, macOS 27.2 "Golden Gate," watchOS 27.2, tvOS 27.2, and visionOS 27.2). That timing caught almost everyone off guard, and not just because of the speed: Apple skipped straight past the usual iOS 27.1 point release, which is unusual for a company that almost always ships a .1 update before a .2.

The reason, according to early reporting, comes down to hardware. Apple is holding iOS 27.1 for the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, expected to launch on October 23. Rather than expose Duo-specific code — the vertical dock, vertical Dynamic Island, dual-screen layouts, and side-by-side multitasking — inside a public-facing beta, Apple is testing everything meant for existing iPhones under the iOS 27.2 branding first.

Should you install it? This is a first developer beta, which means it's the least stable, least polished build in the cycle. If you rely on your iPhone daily, wait for the public beta or a later developer build — and always back up before installing any beta software.

The redesigned Health app, powered by Apple Intelligence

The single biggest addition in this beta is an early look at Apple's overhauled Health app, first previewed at Apple's "Surprise and Shine" event on September 9 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo. It's built around Apple Intelligence and adds two major new sections:

  • Insights tab — surfaces timely, personalized observations drawn dynamically from your health data instead of static charts.
  • Longevity tab — analyzes long-term trends and introduces Health Age, an Apple Watch–driven metric that compares how your health markers are tracking relative to your actual age, along with a broader Readiness score.
  • Movement evaluations — uses vision-based AI models on iPhone, combined with Apple Watch heart-rate data, to assess flexibility, strength, and balance, plus tests like VO2 Max evaluations done jointly with the Watch.

Two important caveats: the new Health app is currently U.S. English only, and Apple has confirmed it's included in this beta purely for early developer testing — it will not ship in the final public version of iOS 27.2. The redesigned Health app is expected to arrive as a separate rollout before the end of 2026, alongside newer hardware like the Apple Watch Ultra 4 and Apple Watch Series 12, which include upgraded health-sensing hardware.

Siri AI expands to five new languages

When Siri AI — Apple's overhauled, more conversational assistant with on-screen awareness and personal context — launched inside iOS 27 on Monday, it was available only on devices set to English. Apple had already said broader language support was coming "in October," and iOS 27.2 beta 1 delivers on that early. Testers running the beta can now use Siri AI with their device language set to:

  • English (already available in iOS 27)
  • French
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Portuguese
  • Spanish

Siri AI still requires an Apple Intelligence–capable iPhone, and it's worth noting this remains a beta feature even in its home language — Apple is continuing to roll it out gradually rather than flipping it on for everyone at once.

Other changes spotted in iOS 27.2 beta 1

Dual capture comes to Group FaceTime

Dual capture — shooting from the front and rear cameras simultaneously — debuted with the iPhone 17 lineup but was limited to one-on-one FaceTime calls. iOS 27.2 beta 1 extends it to Group FaceTime, letting participants share both camera feeds during a group call.

Apple TV profiles land on iPhone

Apple TV app profiles, which arrived on tvOS with the 26.2 update, are now optionally available inside the iPhone's Apple TV app. Testers can create new profiles or link existing ones from their Apple TV box or streaming stick.

Apple Podcasts gets reshuffled

The "Up Next" section in Apple Podcasts has been renamed "New Episodes," and the Continue Playing section now sits directly beneath it — a small but noticeable layout change for anyone who listens to shows regularly.

Two Apple Intelligence features that missed iOS 27 could return

iOS 27 launched without two Apple Intelligence features Apple had originally planned: proactive suggestions inside Messages conversations, and an option to automatically detect and fix compromised or weak saved passwords. Both were delayed before launch, and there's a reasonable chance either or both resurface as this 27.2 beta cycle progresses.

Why did Apple skip iOS 27.1?

Normally, the update immediately following a major fall release is a .1 version. This year, Apple has reserved iOS 27.1 specifically for the iPhone Duo, its foldable iPhone launching October 23 with a vertical Dynamic Island, a vertical dock, side-by-side app multitasking, dual-screen layouts, and camera features built around the second display. Apple has already published SDK details showing developers how existing apps will render on the Duo's dual screens depending on which iOS version they target.

By branching iOS 27.2 off of iOS 27.0 for every other iPhone, Apple can keep testing and refining features for its existing lineup without leaking Duo-specific interface code ahead of the hardware's public unveiling. Apple has said the developer tools needed to fully prep apps for the iPhone Duo should be ready by the end of September, with iOS 27.1 itself expected to surface closer to the device's October launch.

How to install the iOS 27.2 beta

  1. Back up your iPhone first — via iCloud or a computer. Beta software can and does have bugs that cause data loss.
  2. Enroll your Apple ID at the Apple Developer or Apple Beta Software Program site if you haven't already (a public beta typically follows a developer beta by a few weeks).
  3. On your iPhone, open Settings → General → Software Update.
  4. Tap Beta Updates and select iOS 27 Developer Beta.
  5. Return to Software Update and download iOS 27.2 beta 1 — expect a download in the neighborhood of 22GB, so make sure you're on Wi-Fi.

If you'd rather wait for a more stable build, keep an eye out for the public beta, which Apple typically releases a few weeks after the first developer beta and carries far fewer rough edges.

Frequently asked questions

Is the new Health app available in iOS 27.2 beta 1? It's visible to developers for testing, but Apple has confirmed it will not be part of the final public release of iOS 27.2. The redesigned Health app is expected as a separate rollout later in 2026.

Why is there no iOS 27.1 beta? Apple is reserving iOS 27.1 for the iPhone Duo, its foldable iPhone launching October 23. iOS 27.2 is being tested on top of iOS 27.0 for all other iPhones in the meantime.

Which languages does Siri AI support in iOS 27.2 beta? English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Apple has said these additional languages should reach the public release around October.

How big is the iOS 27.2 beta 1 download? Testers report a download size around 22GB, which is a larger-than-usual point-release update.

Is iOS 27.2 beta safe to install on my main iPhone? Apple and most outlets recommend against installing first developer betas on a primary device. If you want to try new features safely, wait for the public beta, which is typically more stable, and always back up beforehand regardless.
